SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Suspended Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has been sentenced to a year of probation and can't drive for 90 days after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.

A St. Joseph County magistrate on Wednesday gave Floyd a one-year prison sentence that was suspended. He also ordered that after Floyd gets his license back, he will have a device installed in his car for 180 days that will prevent it from starting if his blood-alcohol level is too high.

Prosecutors say when Floyd was arrested March 20 in South Bend he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19 percent - more than double Indiana's legal limit for driving.

In addition, the Tribune reported Floyd's driver's license will be suspended for 90 days, and he must use an ignition interlock device for six months once he gets the license back. The report said Floyd must attend a Victim Impact Panel.

 

Notre Dame's leading receiver last season, Floyd was suspended by head coach Brian Kelly following his arrest. But earlier this month, Kelly permitted Floyd to participate in voluntary summer workouts and conditioning exercises.

So in lieu of a odds figure in which to bet the team to win outright, the Bears might be a three-point favorite over the New York Giants, and a 17-point favorite over the also-ran. Now that the team that is the underdog can "get" points, there can be equal action on both sides.

In sportsbooks, this is usually done with efficiency by charging the losing bettors 10% extra - in effect, bettors are laying 11/10 on those games. So they are actually betting $110 to win $100. If they lose, they pay the "vig." If they win, they simply collect.

The establishment of the pointspread as the corner stone around which team sports like football can be wagered upon was truly what brought gridiron betting into the stratosphere for online football betting .
